From The Test Kitchen: Protein Smoothie #1

The more I learn about women and protein, the clearer it becomes: Many of us may need more than the standard recommendation, spread throughout the day rather than saved for dinner.

This recipe makes that simple. It gives me more than 30 grams of protein in the morning and has become one of my easiest healthy habits.

LIZANNE’S PROTEIN SMOOTHIE
Serves 1
Ingredients
• 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (full fat, the protein and satiety hold up better for me than the low fat versions)
• 1 scoop unflavored or vanilla whey or collagen protein
• 1/2 cup blueberries
• 1 tablespoon almond butter
• 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
• A pinch of cinnamon
• A few unsalted pistachios for crunch

Method
1. In a blender pulse the protein powder into the yogurt with a splash of water or milk until smooth. This is the step people skip and then wonder why it's clumpy.
2. Add the flaxseed and cinnamon, pulse again. Then pour into a glass.
3. Top with the blueberries, almond butter, and pistachios.
4. Eat it sitting down, if you can manage that small act of self respect before the day takes over.

What I’m tracking: The above is approximately 32 grams of protein, a healthy dose of omega 3s from the flax, and enough fiber to keep me steady until lunch instead of reaching for something at 10:30 out of genuine hunger rather than habit.  Enjoy!
