The Oat Milk Myth: Why Your Latte Might Be Spiking Your Aging

I get asked all the time what I think about oat milk. Truth is, it’s not the wellness hero we’ve been led to believe. For many women focused on vitality, metabolic strength, and lowering biological age, oat milk can actually work against the body, especially your blood sugar.

Once oats are processed into a liquid and enzyme-treated to taste sweet and creamy, you’re no longer drinking a whole grain - you’re drinking a starch. And liquid starch hits the bloodstream fast. Oat milk converts to glucose almost immediately, spiking your glycemic index. I see this all the time: women eating clean, working out, sleeping well…yet still dealing with cravings, energy dips, and stubborn weight. Then they go for the daily oat-milk latte.

Your body doesn’t care if a starch is “healthy” or not; a spike is a spike. For women in peri- or post-menopause, these swings matter. They drive inflammation, accelerate aging, and make it harder to build and maintain muscle.

Most commercial oat milks are highly processed and often include oils, gums, and stabilizers; none of which help your gut or glucose.

If you love a latte, there are better choices: unsweetened almond, macadamia, or a splash of real dairy if you tolerate it. Wellness isn’t about perfection, it’s about awareness. Small daily choices shape your vitality.

Your latte shouldn’t work against you, and oat milk often does.

To your vitality,

Lizanne
